MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — From Donald Trump prepping for a major immigration speech to the retirement of a longtime CBS News Sunday Morning host, here are the four stories to know for Monday, Aug. 29.
Trump Preps For Major Speech
Donald Trump is preparing a major speech on immigration in Arizona Wednesday as he continues reaching out to minority voters. On Sunday, Trump’s running mate Mike Pence downplayed speculation that Trump is softening his stance on the issue — as well as the idea of creating a “deportation force” to deal with those here illegally. Recent polls show Trump trailing behind rival Hillary Clinton in several key states.
Scare At LAX
Los Angeles International Airport was briefly evacuated last night as authorities investigated a reported shooting. That sparked panic and chaos among travelers. Airport police later said the incident proved to be only loud noises and there was no gunman or shooting. They detained a person dressed in a Zorro costume, but it wasn’t clear if it connected to the evacuation.
As criticism continues to mount over the price of the EpiPen, drug-maker Mylan says it’s going to make a generic version. The company says it will cost $300 for a two-pack — instead of $600 for the brand name. It should be available within the next several weeks.
Charles Osgood Retires
The longtime host of “CBS News Sunday Morning” announced he will retire next month. Charles Osgood is 83 years old and has hosted the show since 1994. After Osgood’s Sept. 25 departure, he says he will make occasional appearances on the show. A new host has not been named.
