State Fair Boosting Recycling Efforts By Adding More Bins

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Minnesota State Fair expects to recycle more cans, bottles and cups this year thanks to an effort to place more recycling bins next to trash bins.

You may notice more black and gray bottle-shape recycling bins at the fair this year.

Tim Wilkin, the President of the Minnesota Beverage Associations, says having a recycling bin next to a regular trash can makes a world of difference.

"If a waste bin is sitting all alone, about 80 percent of the contents will be recyclable," he said. "So we want to get to a point where we want a recycling bin next to every waste bin."

There are 1,500 trash bins at the fairgrounds. There are about half as many recycle bins.
