DWI Arrests Decrease In Minnesota For 2015

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The number of arrests for drunk driving is down in Minnesota for 2015, according to the Department of Public Safety.

In 2015, DPS said 25,027 DWI arrests were made. This is down over 300 from last year. DPS said in the last 10 years, DWI arrests have declined by 40 percent.

However, while DWI arrests are down, drunk driving fatalities increased in 2015.

The number of traffic fatalities related to drunk driving in 2015 was 95, seven more than 2014 and 14 more than 2013.

But, in the last five years drunk driving fatalities have decreased by eight percent, with the number not going over 100 since 2011.

Drunk driving recidivism is becoming less common as well.

According to DPS, over 11 years recidivism has dropped for drivers receiving their first, second and third DWIs.
