Suspect At Large After Man Killed In St. Paul Robbery

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO)- - St. Paul police continue to investigate the murder of a man in St. Paul's North End neighborhood Thursday.

Police say they received a 911 call of a robbery in progress near Orange Avenue West and Galtier Street North just before 4 a.m.. They arrived to find a critically-injured man, later identified as 42-year-old Jason Mikulak of North St. Paul.

Investigators have released few details about the incident, saying only that a 911 call reporting a robbery brought them to the area.

"St. Paul fire paramedics responded and pronounced that man dead on the scene," St. Paul Police Sgt. Mike Ernster said.

Police are not releasing many details of the investigation, saying only the suspect is believed to have fled on foot.

Neighbors, who did not want to appear on camera, said they heard at least two gunshots right before 4 a.m. They say this was normally a quiet area.

Kristen Witt has lived in the neighborhood for 49 years. She is troubled that the person who committed the murder is still at large.

"It's scary," Witt said. "That's even more nerve-wracking, to not know what happened or know what's going on."

Police say this is not related to another murder just two days ago in the nearby Frogtown neighborhood. They are asking anyone with information about this to call their homicide unit at 651-266-5650.
