Girl Killed By Driver Fleeing Police Identified

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Hennepin County Medical Examiner has identified the 16-year-old girl who was killed by a hit-and-run driver who was fleeing police.

The incident happened Friday in Minneapolis, after officers saw a vehicle driving fast and erratically just before 10 p.m. near North Emerson and 36th Avenues.

Officers tried to pull over the driver, who took off and hit a 16-year-old girl. She later died from her injuries at North Memorial Medical Center.

On Monday morning, she was identified as Diana Ivette Garcia-Alvarado, of Phoenix.

After hitting Garcia-Alvarado, the driver bailed out of his moving car and ran away, as his car continued to move. His car hit several parked vehicles before coming to a stop.

He was soon arrested a block away while trying to carjack a vehicle with a family inside.

Police say the suspect had two felony arrest warrants out for him, and a handgun was found in his vehicle.
