Wis. Firefighters Carry Children Through Flood Waters

WEST ALLIS, Wis. (AP) — Firefighters carried stranded children to their parents after flood waters trapped them in a suburban Milwaukee day care center.

Heavy rain Wednesday made the road to KinderCare Learning Center in West Allis impassable. The center's employees called firefighters for help. The crews planned to retrieve the children with their fire trucks, but realized the rigs might end up getting stuck. So the firefighters carried the children to higher ground with the last child leaving about 9 p.m. The day care center declined to say how many children were affected.

The heavy rain created challenges elsewhere in Wisconsin, flooding roads in seven counties. Richland Center schools are closed for a second day Thursday because of the flooding.

In Dodge County, Parkview School and St. John's Lutheran in Mayville were evacuated Wednesday due to rising flood waters.
