Klobuchar Pays Tribute To Wetterling On Senate Floor

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Wetterling family has been receiving an outpouring of support in the week since the mystery of what happened to Jacob was finally solved, with the tributes even reaching the floor of the U.S. Senate.

On Thursday, Sen. Amy Klobuchar honored Jacob and praised his mom's advocacy. She called the victim's mother, and her former political opponent, "a woman of unbelievable courage."

"The amazing part of this story is not only the memory of this little boy but it is how Patty Wetterling and her family for years have turned their grief into action," Klobuchar said. "Many people would understandably would just try to hang onto their family and she's done that. She's been a great mom. She went beyond that."

It has been an emotional week for the Wetterling family. After nearly 27 years, they know what happened to Jacob and finally have closure. A week ago, his remains were recovered on farmland in the Paynesville area.

The visible ways the community stands in support of them continues to grow. Jacob loved all sports and wanted to be a football player when he grew up. When Jacob played soccer in St. Joseph, his jersey was #11.

On Friday, the Minnesota Twins will wear red jerseys with a #11 patch. Their opponents will do the same. At Saturday's Gophers football game, the school will hand out #11forjacob stickers to honor his memory.

Many people are also showing their support on social media as to way support the Wetterling family and honor Jacob's life. #11forjacob has started a movement for kindness.
