Have you ever spent 10 years chasing a dream?
Have you ever shown up 1,070 times, hoping that today might be the day you get “the call”?
Twins rookie James Beresford knows exactly what that feels like.
The Mount Waverly, Australia native has spent 10 seasons toiling in the Twins minor league system, working hard and wondering if he’d ever get to live out his dream of playing big league baseball.
On a September Saturday night, Beresford’s dream officially came true and he put the proverbial icing on the cake in the seventh inning by driving a Shawn Armstrong pitch and splitting the diamond for his first Major League hit.
An ebullient – if somewhat exhausted – Beresford spoke with the assembled media after the game about his journey and what it meant to finally take the field in a big league ballpark.
Take a listen!
