MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — From the latest in the St. Cloud mall attack to Prince tribute tickets going on sale, here are the four stories to know for Monday, Sept. 19.
St. Cloud Mall Attack
Crossroads Center in St. Cloud is expected to reopen today while authorities continue their investigation into a stabbing spree. Nine people were hurt at the mall on Saturday, but are all expected to be OK. The suspect was shot and killed by an off-duty officer. Yesterday, an Islamic State-run news agency claimed the attacker was a quote “soldier of the Islamic State.” Authorities are still working to confirm that.
Several people described as ‘persons of interest’ are in police custody this morning in connection with a weekend explosion in New York City. Federal investigators say they were arrested late last night after a traffic stop along a highway in Brooklyn. Nearly 30 people were injured in the Saturday night blast. Also this morning, investigators are looking into a suspicious package found near a train station in Elizabeth, New Jersey. One of the five devices found in a trash can accidentally exploded while a robot was sent in to check it out.
Lawmakers Push To End Nurses’ Strike
A group of Minnesota lawmakers will join striking nurses to talk about ending Allina Health’s standoff over a new three-year contract. Thousands of Twin Cities nurses have been on strike since Sept. 5. Their main issues are with Allina’s health insurance plan and workplace safety concerns. The DFL lawmakers will meet today at noon.
