Excellent Educator: South View Middle School's Katy Kobany

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The school year is in full swing and teachers are already doing excellent work in the classroom.

One teacher at South View Middle School in Edina, Katy Kobany, made a big impression on one of her students last year.

Eliza Roffers nominated eighth-grade science teacher Kobany, praising her for her generosity, but also her humor came through when she was presented with her Excellent Educator certificate.

"I wanted to become a teacher because I wanted to give lots of homework and tests," she said. "No, not at all. I wanted to become a teacher because I love working with other people and I love the surprise and excitement that comes when somebody gets something, when you get to teach something new."

She said she loves teaching eighth grade in particular because it's an age where the kids are "fun and goofy, and yet still love coming to school."
