Gov. Dayton Declares Oct. 22 'Jacob Wetterling Day'

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Gov. Mark Dayton has declared Oct. 22, 2016, "Jacob Wetterling Day" in Minnesota.

That date marks the 27th anniversary of Wetterling's disappearance.

Danny Heinrich admitted to kidnapping and killing Wetterling earlier this month. That admission was part of a plea deal. As part of that deal, Heinrich also led authorities to the site where he buried Wetterling's body.

A private funeral for Wetterling will be held on Sunday.
