Rosedale Shopping Center To Undergo Major Renovation
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Rosedale Center is about to get a major makeover.
Beginning Monday crews will be working for the next year renovating the mall, inside and out.
Not only that, the mall is expanding. Rosedale is adding department store Von Maur next to a new parking ramp, plus an additional 21,000 square feet of retail space for even more stores.
Rosedale opened in 1969, and because it is centrally-located in the metro area, it's one of the most-visited malls in the state.
"We haven't done an interior remodel since 1993," Rosedale Center's general manager Scott Michaelis said. "Really, what we're trying to do is enhance our shoppers' experience. We want our shoppers to be inspired."
Michaelis shared drawings of what the new and improved Rosedale Center will look like next year at this time.
He describes it as a cleaner, more comfortable look with more seating, softer lighting, and better Wi-Fi. He hopes to create a more open feel with better views of all the stores.
"You'll be able to walk and see stores from side to side, you'll be able to see the seating areas, our common area vendors," Michaelis said. "It will be much more efficient and easier to shop."
The mall will remain open during the renovation. Crews will work overnight.
"The mall will be fully functional," Michaelis said. "You will notice some things are going on. Most of it will be overhead. There will be some areas that you'll know there's construction. It will be safe, it will be clean."
As part of the expansion, Rosedale is adding a new department store -- a two-level Von Maur.
"With the addition of Von Maur they also have 21,000 square feet of brand new shops base right inside," Michaelis said. "So as people are walking through the center of the mall, they will be able to see that new space as they come up to the new anchor."
Michaelis added they haven't decided yet which retailers will move into the new space, but over the summer they welcomed a new Build-A-Bear Workshop and White Barn Candle into the existing space.
The interior renovation will be finished just before the holidays in 2017. Von Maur opens the summer of 2018, but you can park in the new ramp's 430 spaces beginning next month.
Rosedale is also remodeling the restrooms and the children's play area.
