Man Accused Of Injuring Marshal Involved In Separate Chase Arrested

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- An official with the U.S. Marshals Service says a man who struck a deputy with a vehicle Thursday has been arrested.

According to Chris Clifford with the U.S. Marshals, the suspect was involved in another chase Friday. He says the chase started at 10:14 a.m. on East Minnehaha Parkway and 30th Avenue South and lasted for six to seven blocks, ending in Powderhorn Park.

Clifford says the suspect crashed into a law enforcement vehicle before being arrested. He is being taken to the Hennepin County Jail.

Clifford identified the man as James Douglas Mitchell.

There were no injuries in the incident Friday.

Mitchell is accused of striking the deputy Thursday at 8:30 a.m., pinning him between two vehicles before he fled the scene. That incident happened outside the Seven Corners Apartments on the west bank of the University of Minnesota.

Marshal's deputies were serving a Department of Corrections parole warrant on the subject, who was parked in his car along a curb.

The suspect backed up when he saw the deputy approach, pinning the deputy between cars and causing significant injuries.

That deputy, whose name is not being released, was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. A Marshal's Service spokesman says the deputy was treated and released.

The deputy who was injured is an Iraqi war veteran with multiple tours of duty. He has been with the Marshal's Service for more than 10 years.
