Police: Teenage Boy Arrested In Fatal Mpls. Shooting Of Man & Baby

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Minneapolis police say a 17-year-old boy has been arrested in connection to the shooting deaths of a 20-year-old man and an 8-month-old baby Sunday.

The fatal shooting happened at about 1:30 p.m. Sunday near 11th Avenue and 26th St East. That's right across the street from Stewart Park and near Abbott Northwester Hospital.

When officers arrived, they found both victims in the back seat of a red four-door sedan. Both had been shot, the baby boy was still in his car seat. The man, Gustav Christianson II, was pronounced dead at the scene and the baby, Jayden Redden, later died at Children's Hospital.

At the time, police said the shooting is a targeted attack and not random.

On Wednesday morning, the teenage boy was arrested and booked into the Juvenile Detention Center on probable cause murder. He has not been identified.

The Hennepin County Attorney's Office said Wednesday it believes the 17-year-old has been certified as an adult previously, so if charges are brought, it is likely he will be tried as an adult. The attorney's office is seeking an extension until Thursday for making a charging decision.
