CAIR-MN Calls For School To Drop Event For 'Anti-Muslim' Speaker

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A Muslim advocacy group is calling for a northern Minnesota high school to cancel an event with a speaker whom they describe as an anti-Muslim conspiracy theorist.

The Minnesota chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MN) says that John Guandolo should no longer be invited to speak at Bagley High School because his message is one that shouldn't be highlighted on a taxpayer-funded platform.

"The perception that the high school may be endorsing Guandolo's anti-Muslim bigotry could lead to a hostile learning environment for Muslim and other minority students," said Jaylani Hussein, the executive director of CAIR-MN, in a statement.

Guandolo, a former FBI agent, is the founder of UnderstandingtheThreat.com. According to descriptions his books, he believes that the Muslim Brotherhood is trying to overthrow the American government and that some high ranking U.S. officials are secret Muslims and the tools of Middle Eastern governments and organizations.

CAIR-MN suggests that the high school tell Guandolo to find a private venue for his talk.

The school's superintendent could not be reached Tuesday for comment. Bagley is about 250 miles north of the Twin Cities.
