Some Minnesota Caregivers Fighting To Withdraw From Union

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A group of personal caregivers are fighting to withdraw from their union, but say the state is making it difficult.

The MNPCA says 30 percent of home care workers need to vote on de-certifying the SEIU Healthcare Minnesota bargaining unit. But, they say, they don't know how many PCAs are in the union because the union has not provided an up-to-date list of members.

Personal health care providers joined the union in 2013 after heated debate. The coalition says PCAs pay up to 950 dollars a year in union dues. They argue they don't need to pay a union to take care of their family members.

The healthcare workers joined the union in support of bargaining for better wages and benefits.
