4 Gopher Wrestlers Suspended Until January For Violating Team Rules
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The University of Minnesota confirmed Thursday that four Gophers wrestlers have been suspended until January.
School officials said the four were suspended for a violation of team rules. The wrestlers suspended are Larry Early, Brandon Krone, Ethan Lizak and Tommy Thorn.
The school didn't specify what the suspensions were for.
Former coach J. Robinson was fired in early September after allegations of drug sale and use among wrestlers was reported to the university. An investigation revealed athletes in the program were taking and selling Xanax.
It's not clear if the four wrestlers suspended had any connection to the Xanax investigation.
Brandon Eggum was named the team's interim head coach after Robinson's firing. Robinson coached the Gophers for 30 years and won three national championships.
