Twin Cities On Pace For Latest Freeze Ever

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Halloween meant the end of a warmer-than-usual October.

The Blizzard of 1991 tore through the state on Halloween night.

It dropped 28 1/2 inches of snow on the Twin Cities and created havoc on the roads.

Now, 25 years later, we are still waiting for it to get cold enough to snow.

WCCO Chief Meteorologist Chris Shaffer said parts of Minnesota have already seen freezing temperatures, but not the Twin Cities.

"The latest in the season we have gone before we have had a freeze -- 32 degrees or colder -- was November 7th way back in 1900," Shaffer said. "We are on pace this year to possibly go until November 13th which would set a new record."

Shaffer said even though it has been slow to freeze in the Twin Cities, there is no guarantee the winter months will be as mild.
