Chair Martin Says Despite Some Loss, DFL Should Be Proud

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party Chair Ken Martin shared his thoughts on the outcome of the 2016 election.

On Wednesday, Martin released a statement saying, in part, while DFLers are disappointed with the outcome of the general election they should be proud of the work done by candidates, staff and volunteers.

"I'm proud of the campaign's they waged and their extraordinary effort," Martin said in the statement. "DFLers saw two great members of Congress, Rick Nolan and Tim Walz hold off strong challenges, and a third, Rep. Colin Peterson comfortably win reelection."

Martin also congratulated the DFL members who were voted into the House and Senate.

He ended his statement congratulating the Republican opponents too, saying there is a lot of work the two parties need to do together.

"As Democrats we are ready to find common ground, but they must lead. There is a lot of work that needs to be done both in Minnesota and across the nation."

Martin has served as the DFL Chair since 2011.
