Fall Harvest Mostly Over, But Some Still Finishing Fieldwork

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — The fall harvest is over in much of Minnesota, but some producers are still hoping to finish out their harvesting and final fieldwork as weather conditions allow.

In its final weekly crop progress and condition report of the season for Minnesota, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said Monday that only 2.4 days were suitable last week for fieldwork such as tillage and manure applications.

Going into the winter, topsoil and subsoil moisture supplies are rated adequate to surplus over nearly all of Minnesota.

The USDA estimates that Minnesota farmers produced record corn and soybean crops this year, both in terms of total production and yields. But the bumper crops across the country have depressed prices, making it hard for producers to turn a profit.
