Gophers' Wilhite Earns Big Ten Volleyball Honor

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The University of Minnesota volleyball team is preparing for the NCAA Tournament, but one of their top players earned a Big Ten honor after a big week.

Senior outside hitter Sarah Wilhite, an Eden Prairie native, was named the league's Player of the Week after helping lead the No. 2-ranked Gophers to five-set wins over No. 1 Nebraska and No. 3 Wisconsin. She recorded 42 kills in the two matches, including 23 in the win over the Badgers.

Wilhite also had 44 digs over the two matches. It's her sixth career Big Ten Player of the Week honor and she did it just a few weeks ago on Nov. 14.

The Gophers host an NCAA regional this weekend and face North Dakota in a first-round match Friday night at the U of M Sports Pavilion.
