'Shovelable' Snow Headed Right For The Metro

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Minnesotans in the Twin Cities should have their shovels ready this weekend, as up to 4 inches of snow are expected to fall on the metro and it won't melt any time soon.

Meteorologist Mike Augustyniak says the snow will move into the state Saturday morning in the southwest and hit the metro around noon. Later in the evening, the storm system will move into Duluth and western Wisconsin.

"The whole system will be in and out pretty quickly, in about 12 to 18 hours," Augustyniak said. "But it's still going to drop a shovelable and plowable snowfall."

Communities in southern Minnesota, including the metro, could see 3 to 6 inches of snow on average.

Unlike earlier snowfalls this season, which melted within hours or days due to warmer than usual temperatures, this snow will stick around.

Next week looks to bring frigid temperatures, with many Minnesotans expected to experience their first below-zero night of the season Tuesday.
