Gophers Kloos, Sheehy Earn Big Ten Honors After Sweeping Michigan State

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – After a weekend road sweep of Michigan State, Justin Kloos and Tyler Sheehy were honored with Big Ten weekly awards on Tuesday.

Kloos was named the Big Ten's First Star of the Week, and Sheehy was named the Third Star after the Gophers beat the Spartans, 4-2, twice last weekend. It was the Gophers first series sweep of the season and their first sweep at Michigan State since 1978.

Kloos led the Big Ten with five points over the weekend, including one goal and four assists. He had a goal and two assists in Friday's 4-2 victory and had two assists in Saturday's win. It's his fifth career Big Ten honor and first this season.

Sheehy had two goals and one assist on the weekend. He leads the Gophers with 23 points on the season, including 11 goals. He had a goal and an assist Friday, and scored an empty-net goal Saturday. He has a point in eight straight games and a goal in five straight games. It's his fourth career Big Ten honor and second this season.

The Gophers (9-5-2, 3-1)are off until they host the Mariucci Classic Dec. 30-31. The visiting teams include Mercyhurst, Alabama-Huntsville and Massachusetts.
