Volunteers Find Missing Cambridge Teen

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A day-long search for a missing vulnerable teenager had a happy ending.

The Isanti County Sheriff's office says 16-year-old Kaine Martinez wandered away from his home in Cambridge Wednesday night wearing only a pair of blue boxer shorts.

More than 200 volunteers searched for him Thursday in the area of Highway 95 and Lever Street.

Kaine was found in a wooded area early Thursday evening after spotting his campfire. A volunteer who helped find him said he was dirty, hungry and tearful, and he wanted to be reunited with his family.

"He looked dirty, and he was very hungry -- said he had worms for breakfast," volunteer searcher Laurie Hilgers said. "He had a little campfire going -- just a little one. He dug it out, had rocks around it."

Hilgers gave the teen her shirt while others volunteers made sure to give him snacks.

An ambulance was at the scene, which brought Kaine to an area hospital to treat bug bites he suffered. He is expected to be OK.

The sheriff's office says local businesses donated food and water for searchers. They also said Kaine's family is thankful for everyone who was involved in the search effort.
