Driver Killed In Crash With Train

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- One person was killed in a crash involving a train in Benton County Friday morning.

The crash happened at about 5:30 a.m. at the railroad crossing on River Road Northeast and the junction with North Benton Drive.

Authorities said evidence indicated that the driver had driven around both sets of street barricades before becoming stuck on the west set of train tracks. Police said the crossing is currently closed for repair work, and is impassible for vehicles.

Police said that witnesses said the man stepped in front of the train before being struck.

The Benton County Sheriff's Office is investigating.
