Mpls. Activist's Murder Remains Unsolved; Enhanced Reward Offered

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Minneapolis police are looking for a man they believe is responsible for murder.

Thirty-three-year-old Tyrone Williams was found dead on April 3 near 8th and Elwood avenues in north Minneapolis.

Investigators believe 27-year-old Sid Brady Strickland Green pulled the trigger.

On Tuesday, Williams' family asked the community to come forward to help them find justice.

His sister, Raeisha, says the family business is not the same without her brother.

"His spirit and his energy lives on through a lot of the food we serve in here," she said.

Tyrone created most of the sandwiches on the menu at the Heritage Tea House in St. Paul.

His murder has not only left a hole in this family, it has devastated all who knew him.

"Tyrone was a huge community activist and one of the main importances was protecting the community from police brutality and from violence as a whole," Raeisha Williams said. "For him to be murdered in such a violent way, in this community, in front of his family home, was just ironic."

Family and friends returned to the scene of his murder, outside his mother's home, to ask for the community's help in finding Strickland-Green.

"He is a 27-year-old male, six feet tall, 146 pounds," said John Elder, a spokesman for Minneapolis police.

Authorities believe someone knows where Strickland Green is hiding.

"We don't need any more bloodshed and I don't want another mother to go through this, so please just give the information to the authorities," Rosemary Williams, Williams' mother, told reporters and community members Tuesday.

Many in the community want the investigation to end, with the arrest of Strickland Green, and closure for the Williams' family.

Minneapolis police and CrimeStoppers are offering an enhanced reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Strickland Green.
