Thaddeus Young Passes Concussion Tests

Minnesota Timberwolves forward Thaddeus Young has passed concussions tests and returned to practice after a scary collision with Chicago Bulls guard Jimmy Butler on Saturday night. Young took an inadvertent elbow to the head from Butler shortly before halftime on Saturday. He remained down on the court for more than 10 minutes while Timberwolves medical staff tended to him and was unable to finish the game.

Timberwolves’ Martin Fined $15K For Crude Gesture

The NBA has fined Minnesota Timberwolves guard Kevin Martin $15,000 for what the league called an “obscene gesture” during the fourth quarter against the Chicago Bulls. The league announced the fine Monday. The gesture came after Martin hit a 3-pointer with just over 90 seconds to play in the game Saturday night. As he headed back to the other end of the court, Martin cupped his hands and held them just below his waist.

Jimmy Butler made a surprise return to the starting lineup and hit two free throws with 0.2 seconds left to help the Chicago Bulls weather another absence from star guard Derrick Rose in a 106-105 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Saturday night.

Young, Wolves Hold Off Pistons 97-91

Thaddeus Young scored 19 points and hit a big 3-pointer with 90 seconds to play to lift the Minnesota Timberwolves to a 97-91 victory over the Detroit Pistons on Thursday night. Nikola Pekovic had 17 points and 10 rebounds, and Ricky Rubio added 11 points, eight assists and seven boards for the Timberwolves in their home opener. Caron Butler scored 24 points and D.J. Augustin had 20 points and six assists for the Pistons, who have opened the season with two straight losses on the road under first-year coach Stan Van Gundy.

Gasol Powers Memphis Past Minnesota 105-101

Marc Gasol scored a career-high 32 points, and the Memphis Grizzlies beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 105-101 on Wednesday night for the franchise’s first victory in a season opener since 2000. Zach Randolph added 25 points and 13 rebounds for Memphis, which had dropped its last 13 openers. Gasol also had nine rebounds, Mike Conley scored 16 points and Courtney Lee finished with 14.

Think Andrew Wiggins is excited to play his first NBA game? So does he. “I think about it every day, you know. It’s something that I’ve been looking forward to my whole life, so I think about it every day,” Wiggins said.
