Kevin Love left the Minnesota Timberwolves for a weekend in New Orleans, the NBA All-Star game and accompanying festivities providing a brief-but-not-relaxing break from a frustrating season that has been both taxing on many levels.
Kevin Love started practicing early for All-Star weekend, making six of 11 shots from 3-point range and totaling 32 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Minnesota Timberwolves to a 117-90 victory over the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday night.
Minnesota Timberwolves coach Rick Adelman has returned to the team for the final game before the NBA All-Star break. Adelman said Wednesday before the Timberwolves hosted Denver that his wife, Mary Kay, had “a little problem” that he had to tend to. Adelman declined to be more specific but said the situation was “fine.” She has suffered from seizures in the past, and Adelman missed 11 games last season to be with her during a particularly difficult stretch. Adelman missed the game Monday night against Houston and practice Tuesday.
The Minnesota Timberwolves would probably have to go 20 and 10, or maybe even 22 and 8 for the rest of the way to make the playoffs. The task is again becoming daunting, and forward Corey Brewer is painfully aware. “We need a win before All-Star break. We got a lot of injuries, man,” Brewer said. “It’s tough when you have injuries.” They are indeed a team riddled with current injuries, and frustrated by another sub-par season. Healthy or not, the Wolves cannot get stops on defense.
Minnesota Timberwolves coach Rick Adelman has missed another day with the team for personal reasons.
Adelman was not at practice on Tuesday, following his absence from the game on Monday against Houston.
Dwight Howard had 18 points and 15 rebounds, and the surging Houston Rockets used a fourth-quarter push to hold off the Minnesota Timberwolves 107-89 Monday night for their sixth consecutive victory. Chandler Parsons had 20 points and James Harden scored 19 for the Rockets, who have won six straight for the first time since taking seven in a row from Jan. 13-23, 2012.
The Timberwolves say coach Rick Adelman will miss Monday night’s game against Houston due to personal reasons. While Adelman is away from the team, forward Kevin Love says he will be back in the lineup after missing one game with a bruised left quadriceps.
LaMarcus Aldridge scored 16 of his 26 points in the second half and Wesley Matthews added 21 to help the Portland Trail Blazers hold off the injury-depleted Minnesota Timberwolves 117-110 Saturday night. Aldridge had six points during Portland’s game-deciding 13-1 run in the fourth quarter. Corey Brewer led Minnesota with 26 points and Ricky Rubio scored a career-high 25 for the Wolves, who were without All-Star Kevin Love, Nikola Pekovic and Kevin Martin.
All-Star forward Kevin Love missed Minnesota’s game against Portland because of a bruised left quadriceps, and starting point guard Kevin Martin also was out Saturday night because of a broken left thumb that will sideline him indefinitely. Love limped noticeably a couple hours before the scheduled tipoff. He told reporters he took a knee from New Orleans’ Greg Steimsma on Friday night in Minnesota’s road loss. Before the injury was announced, Love — averaging 25.6 points and 13.3 rebounds — said he had no plans of skipping the All-Star game.
Anthony Davis responded to his selection to the Western Conference All-Star squad with 26 points and 10 rebounds, and the New Orleans Pelicans overcame a 10-point fourth quarter deficit to defeat the Minnesota Timberwolves 98-91 on Friday night.
The NBA announced Thursday night that Timberwolves Kevin Love will compete in the three-point shootout that’s part of All-Star Weekend. Love won the three-point contest back in 2012 and was recently voted by fans to be a starter in this year’s All-Star Game.
The Oklahoma City Thunder showed Wednesday night that they don’t always need to have Kevin Durant score in the fourth quarter to win a close game.
Minnesota Timberwolves forward Kevin Love isn’t playing against the Oklahoma City Thunder because of a stiff neck. The Timberwolves say Love hurt his neck in a hard fall during the fourth quarter of Minnesota’s win Tuesday over the Los Angeles Lakers. Minnesota coach Rick Adelman said Love had treatment before Wednesday’s game in an attempt to play. He was in the starting lineup given to media before the team announced he would be out.
Kevin Love had 31 points and 17 rebounds for Minnesota, spoiling Steve Nash’s return for languishing Los Angeles and leading the Timberwolves to a 109-99 victory Tuesday night that stuck the Lakers with their seventh straight defeat.
The Minnesota Timberwolves have finalized a plan to build a practice facility across the street from their arena in a vacant former movie theater.
