Wild Trim Roster To 27, Waive Gogol, Sutter

The Minnesota Wild have reduced their training camp roster to 27 players, with the start of the season less than a week away. The Wild assigned seven players Friday to their AHL affiliate: defensemen Jonathan Blum, Justin Falk and Gustav Olofsson and forwards Tyler Graovac, Michael Keranen, Zack Phillips and Joel Rechlicz. They placed forwards Curt Gogol and Brett Sutter on waivers and will assign them to Iowa if they clear.

Leopold Scores In 3rd As Blues Beat Wild, 4-1

Jordan Leopold scored the tiebreaking goal at 5:33 of the third period, leading the St. Louis Blues to a 4-1 victory over the Minnesota Wild on Thursday night. Leopold scored off an assist from Vladimir Tarasenko, who passed it to Leopold in the right circle for a one-timer high into the net.

Wild Claim Nate Prosser Off Waivers From St. Louis

The Minnesota Wild have claimed defenseman Nate Prosser off waivers from St. Louis. The Wild announced the move Thursday. Prosser became a free agent last summer and signed with St. Louis, only to be waived by the Blues this week.

Sutter Scores In OT, Penguins Beat Wild 3-2

Brandon Sutter scored his second goal of the game 2:23 into overtime to give the Pittsburgh Penguins a 3-2 exhibition victory over the Minnesota Wild on Thursday night. Sutter beat Ilya Bryzgalov with a backhander in overtime. Sutter opened the scoring in the first period with a power-play goal. Oskar Sundqvist also scored for Pittsburgh (1-2-0).

Bob Suter Leaves Behind Legacy As Player, Father

There’s no other moment in sports that comes close to what Americans felt that day in 1980, when a bunch of college kids beat the mighty Soviet Union in the “Miracle on Ice.” And for that, we have Bob Suter to thank. Suter died Sept. 9 from a heart attack at the age of 57. But he left quite a legacy behind.

Training camp for Ryan Suter will be more than a tuneup for the season. Practicing with the Minnesota Wild will bring respite. Suter’s father, a Wild scout and former U.S. Olympic team member, died Sept. 9 of a heart attack. Bob Suter was 57.

Wild Sign Goalie Darcy Kuemper

Darcy Kuemper is on his way back to Minnesota to try to save the Wild’s muddled goaltending situation. Kuemper ended a summer-long stalemate with the Wild when he signed a two-year contract on Thursday night, one day after starting goalie Josh Harding was ruled out indefinitely with a broken right foot.
