Authorities said the incident happened at about 2:25 p.m. back on May 5 near the area of 36th Street West and Zenith Avenue South. The victim, a 13-year-old girl, told police that three white men approached her. One of the men grabbed her and threatened her. She then screamed, and the three men fled the area on foot.

Police said one suspect is described as a 35 to 40-year-old white man with a muscular build similar to a WWF wrestler. Another is a 35 to 40-year-old white man with a blonde buzzed haircut. The third suspect is also 35 to 40 years old, police said.

Anyone with information about the incident or who can identify the man in the sketch is asked to call Minneapolis Police at (612) 673-2864.

Molitor talked about a fund-raising event the Twins are presenting on Saturday night at Target Field. The club is supporting an effort to build a local hospice facility for children, in the name of Harmon Killebrew. Molitor also talked about his relationship with Killebrew. Here’s the interview.

“Our state association, Minnesota Licensed Family Child Care Association, recently conducted a survey and 86 percent of licensed providers said they were opposed to unionization,” Parish said.

Others called it Government over reach, and said it’s not in the best interest of the children.

Those who support the bill said it gives providers more representation, and a voice at the Capitol.

Goodman talked about the market conditions that have home sales and investment incomes improving. He also had advice for college students with heavy loan debt.

After Monday night, he’s adding Aaron Hicks to the list.

Hicks hit two home runs and made a leaping catch in center field to take a home run away from Adam Dunn in the Twins’ 10-3 win over the Chicago White Sox.

“We’ve definitely had our share of great ones here and that ranks right up there,” Gardenhire said. “That catch is going to rank right up there, especially the moment he caught the ball. A big moment, a big play.”

Justin Morneau extended his hitting streak to nine games with three hits and four RBIs, including a bases-clearing double that capped the scoring in the eighth.

Hicks, who missed the previous two games due to a sore right elbow, led off the fourth inning with a 416-foot solo homer that bounced in front of the black batter’s eye in center field and gave the Twins a 5-2 lead.

With a runner on third and the Twins holding a 5-3 lead in the sixth, Dunn drove a pitch from reliever Josh Roenicke deep to center that appeared to be headed for the same spot Hicks’ blast landed. However, the Twins’ rookie sprinted back, leaped high, and caught the ball above the wall, falling to the ground and grinning as he opened his glove to show the ball to the umpire.

After getting congratulated by teammates jogging off the field, Hicks hit his second home run in the bottom of the sixth, this one landing in the bullpen in left-center.

“Right after the catch I felt amazing, I felt loose. To hit that one, it just capped it off,” Hicks said.

Fans at Target Field stood and cheered for a curtain call, and Hicks finally obliged after Pedro Florimon popped out.

“I heard ‘em, but it’s my first one so I don’t really know,” said Hicks, whose teammates doused him with Gatorade and shaving cream after the game. “Morneau’s saying, ‘Hey these don’t happen that often.’ Florimon ended up popping out, so I had to kind of wait. Then I went out and got it.”

Dunn and Hicks entered the game tied for the lowest batting average in baseball (.137) among qualifiers. When the night was over, Hicks’ average was .152 and Dunn’s .133.

“Yeah, the kid made a great play,” said White Sox manager Robin Ventura, whose team allowed three unearned runs. “I think that one was one he hit well, but you don’t get anything out of it. But again we are not helping ourselves on the other side.”

Twins starter Pedro Hernandez (2-0) allowed three runs and six hits in 5 1-3 innings. The left-hander, who came to the Twins in a trade with the White Sox for Francisco Liriano, retired 14 of the next 15 batters he faced after giving up two runs in the first inning.

Alex Rios had two RBIs for the White Sox, who are last in the American League in batting average and runs scored. Alejandro De Aza and Alexei Ramirez each had three hits.

Hector Santiago (1-2) allowed six runs — three earned — on eight hits in 5 2-3 innings. He had only allowed one earned run in his previous two starts.

The Twins loaded the bases with nobody out and took advantage of Ramirez’s error at shortstop to score four runs in the third. The inning was capped by Trevor Plouffe’s two-run double.

“Yeah, it seems like every day we have one play that could change the game and it does wind up changing the game,” Santiago said. “I mean that play there, if he makes that play we are out of it and we’re up 2-0. You can keep the pitch count down. It was a big play in the game, and of late it’s been something like that, just one play each and every game.”

The White Sox loaded the bases against Jared Burton in the eighth, but pinch-hitter Conor Gillaspie grounded out to first.

“Wouldn’t it be cool to see which country would be like going down next?” Nayer said.

Nayer and Kim created a model using information about the social and economic conditions,leading to the instability.

“It’s about trying to quantify the amount of social unrest in any country at any time,” he said.

Nayer was intrigued by the uprising in Egypt.

“So, we look at unemployment, and then look at GDP divided by GDP for those under 25, because we found that most of the people under 25 are the ones causing civil unrest,” he said.

More than 1600 finalists from all over the world will be presenting their research, ranging from cancer treatments to environmental solutions.

Although the senate bill is about $750 million less than the $2.6 billion house proposal, the cheaper Senate version includes a highly unpopular tax on clothing – something Senate Majority Leader Tom Bakk says is necessary.

“Today at least the governor and I have an agreement that there are some things in the sales tax worth taking a look at,” Bakk said.

The clothing tax is opposed by retailers, the governor and House Speaker Paul Thissen.

“I think it’s just part of the negotiations. We try to figure out the best tax package for middle-class Minnesotans and that’ll be part of the discussion,” Thissen said.

The governor would also like to raise the higher income tax threshold from the mid-$20,000 range to $500 million. Dayton believes that anything lower than that will damage the middle class.

Whatever is worked out Friday will be sent to a House-Senate conference committee next week for a final draft.

Carpenter is recognized as an expert in this issue. He talked with WCCO Morning host Dave Lee.

As the head coach at Apple Valley High School for 24 years, Wycoff has spent countless hours teaching students the intricacies of public speaking. From delivery and vocal inflection to eye contact and body language, everything is intensely analyzed.

“We help kids have the confidence to compete hard, enjoy being in front of an audience and truly love what they’re doing,” Wycoff said. “All of that makes you a really good speaker, but being the best really boils down to competitive drive.”

That work ethic, featuring long hours and meticulous attention to detail, has built Apple Valley into one of the most successful forensic programs in the nation.

This year will be Wycoff’s last, leaving an undeniable legacy that stretches a quarter-century.

Since 1989, Apple Valley has produced 73 state champions. Of the 103 students that have reached the coveted final round at two National Forensic League tournaments, 23 have been named National Champions.

“To be a part of something so big when you’re so young, it’s fundamentally changed how I approach life,” said Nader Helmy, a senior and two-time national champion in Original Oratory. “I think overall, it’s made me a better person.”

When he defends his title in Birmingham next month, Helmy will face the most intelligent, articulate speakers the country has to offer. But some of his toughest competition will be familiar faces.

Apple Valley’s success has been contagious, pushing other schools in the District to develop nationally-renowned programs of their own.

In 2012, four of the six national finalists in Oratory were from District 196 — two from Apple Valley High School, one from Eastview and one from Eagan.

“California and Texas are very strong and parts of Florida are very good, but if you were to go to the national tournament now, Minnesota would be one of the strongest states represented,” Wycoff said.

Several program alumni have gone on to great professional success, but are still remembered for their speech achievements. Near the school’s entrance, a Wall of Fame features national champions’ pictures and tournament wins. Every year, speech and debate members pose for full-color posters, similar to the football or basketball team.

Despite the trophies and accomplishments, Wycoff’s real legacy is giving thousands of young people a leg up in life, encouraging them to embrace a concept that is widely feared: public speaking.

Pam credits her husband, Joe, also a coach of the team, for making those speech skills easily translatable to everyday life.

“Sometimes I think the kids we help the most are those who never make a round at state but they gain a sense of confidence in the power of the word,” Joe Wycoff said. “Those are the people who come back and say they are so happy to have been involved in the program.”

“The big picture — the real final round — is the time you nail the interview and land that dream job, or stand up at a school board meeting and advocate for what you think is important,” Pam Wycoff said.

Combined they’ve coached for 75 years. Pam Wycoff says she’ll teach at Apple Valley for a few more years. Her husband, though, will retire from both education and speech this year.

Four current Apple Valley assistants will assume head coaching duties.

“It’s been a really great run and (letting go) is emotional for us,” Pam Wycoff said. “But we’re happy with where we are and where the program is. It’s the right way to go out.”

“It’s ridiculous, at 8:30 a.m. trucks will start circling the block,” said Steve Ramlow, owner of Simply Steve’s food truck. “Then around 9, somebody finally parks and then everyone parks.”

Ramlow said the big fight is for spots on Marquette Avenue between 7th and 8th, near the IDS tower.

“Most of us really get along and we try to make sure we’re utilizing the space,” said Cody Allen, owner of the House of Hunger truck. “Sometimes in the morning for about 10 minutes it gets interesting.”

In 2010, Minneapolis issued only 10 food trucks licenses and trucks were only allowed to park on Nicollet Mall. In 2011, the number grew to 28. Then in 2012, the number doubled to 56. This year, there are 66 licensed food trucks competing to sell lunches.

On top of the increase in food trucks, our April and May snow storms have pushed back the food truck season making things even more competitive.

“We were three-and-a-half months into the year, this time last year, and this year it’s been really tough in the last month to even get out,” Allen said.

Some food truck owners have been surviving by parking at tap houses on evenings and weekends.

“This week I’m at 612 Brew on Thursday, I’m at Indeed Brewing on Friday. I’m at Fulton on Saturday,” Ramlow said.

This season food truck owners formed a group called the Minnesota Food Truck Association. They came together after skyway businesses formed their own group called the Downtown Food Committee.

Brick and mortar restaurants said food trucks were taking away their business and they approached the city about limiting the amount of trucks downtown.

On Tuesday, the food truck association planned to meet again.

News of the Boston Marathon bombings broke when I was live on the air filling in for Chad Hartman. The fear was palpable. My brain kicked into high gear, breaking news is a job, work Jor. But when people are killed, hurt, afraid… my head was in the work, but my heart was breaking.

When you are immersed in tragedy it’s hard to leave it at work, hard to stop asking questions, hard to not be angry. You are a sponge for information and soaking up the facts sometimes makes it difficult to filter out the evil energy that created them.

I was grateful for the help.

Minnesota farmers may be planting late this spring, but there’s a lot to be thankful for — in most parts of the state.

“We have made some progress throughout the state and we are no longer in an extreme drought situation, but we do have pockets where we are moderate to severe,” said David Nicolai of the University of Minnesota extension service in Dakota County.

Nicolai points to figures from the federal government showing that as recently as this winter, 83 percent of Minnesota was in a severe drought. By early April, it was down to 67 percent.

As of today, only 15 percent of Minnesota is in a severe drought. That’s mainly pockets in the southwestern, central and northwestern parts of the state.

It’s the silver lining in a spring that came oh so gradually and with unusual amounts of snow.

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A man is in serious condition after a shooting near 8th Street South and Park Avenue South in downtown Minneapolis.

Sgt. Stephen McCarty, of the Minneapolis Police, said officers were dispatched to the area on a call of a shooting around 1:30 p.m.

“When they arrived, they found an adult victim who had been shot multiple times,” McCarty said. “As you know that’s right near the hospital, and they are treating him as we speak.”

McCarty said he wasn’t sure if the injuries were life threatening at this point.

No arrests have been made.

Police believe the suspect fled on foot, got into a vehicle and drove away.

Authorities continue to investigate the shooting, which occurred in broad daylight.

“It is uncommon. We see more shootings at night. It’s unusual to say the least,” McCarty said.

As the only two anglers named after fish parts, Gil and Fin had more jokes than advice for fishing enthusiasts preparing for tomorrow’s Wisconsin Opener. Here are Roger and Dave as Gil and Fin.

But after a spectacular spot-start during Game 1 of the Wild’s Western Conference Quarterfinals in Chicago, the impact of Harding’s story is undeniable.

“That was a phenomenal, ridiculous performance,” said Judd Yeager, who watched the game from his Forest Lake home. “You can’t say enough about him, some of those saves were just incredible.”

Yeager, 42, is president of the Minnesota Sled Hockey Association. He plays goalie for the Minnesota Northern, persuaded to join the team after losing his lower left leg in a 2010 car accident.

Over the past 36 hours, teammates have called and texted Yeager constantly, many considering Harding’s effort a watershed moment.

“We have youth in our (sled hockey) program that can look at this as an example — realize that this guy is performing at the highest level of our sport,” Yeager said. “Hopefully this sends message that if you have a disability, have a competitive bone in your body and you want to play hockey, you can do it.”

Phones have also been busy at the National Multiple Society’s Upper Midwest Chapter. The Minneapolis office is encouraged by the thought of Harding’s story receiving national attention.

“He’s certainly one-of-a-kind and his interest in raising awareness about the disease is so positive,” said Anna Kuchera, marketing and public relations director for the Upper Midwest Chapter. “For him to show that you can live so actively and so meaningfully is incredibly inspiring for the MS community.”

Even the most hardcore Blackhawks fans admired Harding’s performance, splashing encouraging comments across sports message boards. That’s usually a place for negativity and trash talk.

Actor Michael J. Fox, who has Parkinson’s disease, took to Twitter to salute Harding.

“NHL playoffs! Yes !!! Josh Harding… Great story,” Fox tweeted Tuesday night.

Harding largely avoided the health-related questions after Tuesday’s game, refusing to dwell on his disease or journey. He was instead more upset he couldn’t keep Bryan Bickell’s final shot out of the net.

“No comment,” he said again and again.

“Good for him,” said Wild coach Mike Yeo. “I think we should respect that. Even I have to catch myself sometimes. But the reality is he’s a hockey player, and that’s the way he wants to be treated.”

Harding may not want to talk about it, but his play on the ice speaks volumes.

“This is a feel-good moment for everybody,” Yeager said. “I lost my leg, Josh has MS, we all have our issues now what do you do with it?”

Playing hockey is one hell of a good place to start.

When the gates open at 6 a.m. Saturday morning, manager Jack Gerten says they’ll have plenty of plants, herbs, meats and cheeses, and hanging baskets.

Gerten said some of the vegetables typically seen at this time of year are getting a late start.

“Last year they were out in the field probably about a month ago,” he said. “And now, between the rain and the snow, everything’s still geared up ready to go but they haven’t been able to get in the field yet.”

The extra week has allowed them time to give the market a good cleaning, Gerten said.

It’s the classic Minnesota Drive-In. The greatest Drive-In burger, terrific fried-chicken and all around good food. The place itself is a little on the scruffy side, on the edge of the frontage road and doesn’t have the greatest atmosphere, but the food really makes up for that.

Now we’re working way outside the Twin Cities metro area where we find the amazing Gordy’s Hi Hat in Cloquet, Minnesota! Since 1960, it’s been a family favorite stop on the way to Duluth, the North Shore and a gateway to far northern Minnesota. They make an amazing, hand-pattied, fresh burger and it makes all the difference. Last summer’s horrible flooding that affected Cloquet is now a memory and Gordy’s is open so get in the car, head to north and enjoy one of the finest burgers in Minnesota!

According to Dara, this one shouldn’t be a shock. The Dari-ette is an institution of Midwestern joy! There’s a bit of Italian heritage that kind of sets it apart from the pack. The red sauce is terrific. Get it as a side with the Italian Sausage Patty Sandwich and you won’t regret it. Dara also loves the fried chicken, the banana malt and pretty much everything else! The charm, the history, the food and atmosphere make the Dari-ette the best Drive-In according to Dara in Minnesota!

That question was the subject of a recent Mayo Clinic study. The findings were released Wednesday.

Dr. David Warner, a Mayo Clinic anesthesiologist, said it’s not uncommon for elderly patients to have dementia-like symptoms for extended periods of time after surgery.

“Some people after they have a surgical procedure, especially elderly, appear to have some problems with their thinking that may extend for several weeks or months after the operation,” said Dr. Warner.

He said researchers studied hundreds of case histories of patients in the Rochester area.

Their conclusion?  Elderly surgery patients who receive a general anesthesia are no more likely to develop long-term dementia or Alzheimer’s than other seniors.

She is assigned to Headquarters Support Company, Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion, 34th Infantry Division in Inver Grove Heights, MN as a Human Resources Sergeant and lives in South St Paul.

Trevino has been missing since Feb. 21 after leaving her job at the Mall of America. Her husband, Jeffery Trevino, 39, remains locked in a jail cell charged with two counts of second-degree murder after large amounts of Kira’s blood were found at the couple’s home.

On Tuesday, the Ramsey County Sherriff’s Water Patrol sent out a single boat using side sonar equipment, but nothing turned up. It’s the first time since the ice thawed on the lake that a search had been conducted.

“My house sits high on the hill here,” resident John Montour said. “Every morning when I get up I look across on the lake to see if I see anything unusual and I don’t.”

Montour says its heart wrenching to think Trevino could be under the water. He and many other neighbors hope her body is found soon so Trevino’s family can have some kind of closure.

“I do walk partially around the lake,” said Montour. “Whenever I go my eyes are always open. I look, and look, and look even though I don’t see anything.”

It’s been more than two months since civilian searchers found a plastic bag containing a sports bra, shirt, sponge and a bloody pillow. The DNA on the pillow matched Kira’s.

Pat Reese walks her dog near the lake almost every day.

“To think that it’s so close to us is a hard thing,” Reese said. “My heart goes out to the family.”

One resident who lives near the area where cadaver dogs picked up a scent wanted to remain anonymous. She says she’s not bothered by crews searching the lake or the thought that a crime has been committed near her home. She’s more concerned with Kira’s family finding her.

“It’s not how we feel,” said the woman. “It’s how they feel.”
