Chic Leather Skirts

If you thought leather skirts were only for bikers, think again. Designers like Tommy Hilfiger and Marc Jacobs showed off uber-feminine skirts with pleats and skinny belts on the runway this season. Fitted leather pencil skirts were also popular and can be worn to the office with a simple blouse. This Alice + Olivia leather tulip skirt has a very feminine feel to it and its gathered waistband, pockets and exposed zipper add a sweet touch to this already girly skirt. Pair with a solid colored sweater and tights this fall.

Colored Pants

Color was all over the runway and pants were no exception. 3.1 Phillip Lim and Karen Walker were just two of many collections that showed us that tangerine and rose colored pants can look good without being too over the top. If this trend seems a little 'out there' for you, start with a darker pair of jeans (like this ruby pair) instead of an ultra bright pair. Choose a skinny, fitted leg and pair with a neutral top.

Royal Blue

If you wear lots of grays and blacks in the fall, mix things up by wearing one of the hottest colors this season: blue. The rich sapphire color looks flattering on all skin types and needs very little accessorizing- the color speaks for itself. This Lauren by Ralph Lauren jersey dress is the same stunning blue that that we saw on the runway earlier this year and the rich, bold blue will add a nice touch of color to your wardrobe. Pair with a simple black pump and minimal accessories.

Plaid

Plaid was popular on the runway with plaid blazers, dresses and floor length plaid skirts shown by designers like Adam and L.A.M.B. Avoid wearing head to toe plaid (this look was shown on the runway, but doesn't translate well to everyday life) and start with a simple plaid jacket or blazer. This Tommy Hilfiger is a great transitional piece as the weather gets colder this fall and can be worn over a neutral t-shirt. Long plaid dresses are a nice fall wardrobe addition, but be sure to choose a fitted, belted dress to avoid looking like you are wearing a bed sheet.

Sexy Slits

Long skirts and floor length dresses may have added a conservative feel for fall, but thigh-high slits made for ultra sexy runway looks. Tulip skirts with a slit up the front and long, flowy skirts and dresses with a side slit showed just the right amount of leg to keep it sexy, yet not too revealing. If you're looking to splurge this season, try this Michael Kors gown. The scoop neckline is flattering without showing too much skin and the thigh-high slit is sure to turn heads. Prepare to spend a little on this dress, or shop around to find the same look in other stores.
