He was assigned to the 27th Infantry, 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. He left behind two daughters, ages two and five.

Cpl. Demetrius L. Rice, 24, of Ortonville, Minn. was one of two soldiers who died in Talafar, Iraq, on July 14, 2004 when their vehicle rolled over as the driver tried to avoid another vehicle. The two soldiers were assigned to the army's 5th Battalion, 20th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division, from Fort Lewis, Wash.

Chief Warrant Officer Patrick Dorff, 32, of Buffalo, Minn., died near Mosul, Iraq, on Jan. 25, 2004 when his chopper went down into the Tigris River while conducting a search-and-rescue mission after four soldiers' watercraft capsized. Dorff was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 10th Aviation (Fort Drum); However, in support of mission requirements, he was attached to the 3rd Squadron, 17th Cavalry, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, NY.

He was assigned to B Company, 1st Battalion, 8th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division (Mech), Fort Carson, CO.

Pfc. Edward j. Herrgott, 20, of Shakopee, Minn. died in Bahgdad, Iraq, when a sniper shot him in the neck outside the national museum. He died July 3, 2003 from a gunshot wound while on patrol. He was assigned to the 1-36th Infantry Regiment, 1st Armored Division, Wiesbaden, Germany.
