Fruitless Americans

I think most people don’t realize that you don’t have to eat a huge quantity of veggies or fruit to get a serving in. According to Weight Watchers, one serving of veggies (except leafy greens) is 1/2 cup. Leafy greens are 1 cup. It’s not that hard to get your greens in if you try. So one side salad is probably going to be 2 servings of veggies, with the leafy greens and 1/2 cup of mixed other veggies.

If you do a veggie stir-fry for dinner with some meat or tofu as a staple, you could easily be getting 2-3 servings of veggies. Add a tall glass of orange juice in the morning, or a glass of V8 because it’s fewer carbs, or maybe add some diced tomatoes and onions to your scrambled eggs in the morning.

Try different kinds of veggies and fruits until you find some you like. Don’t force yourself to eat spinach if you can’t stand spinach. Don’t force yourself to eat lima beans if you hate lima beans. Find something you like.
