A man takes part in the annual Cape Town Minstrels Carnival on January 1, 2011, in Cape Town, South Africa. This carnival is usually held on the 2nd of January every year, which is called, "Second New Year", and dates back to the time of slaves in the Cape Colony. The slaves were given the day off, the day after New Year, which they spent, in part, singing and dancing.
