%28credit%3A%20Salvation%20Army%29%3Cbr%20%2F%3ESingle%20mother%20Gyniek%20Clay%20was%20doing%20laundry%20in%20the%20basement%20with%20her%204-year-old%20daughter%20when%20the%20storm%20hit.%20%26%238220%3BThe%20lights%20went%20out%20and%20we%20heard%20crashing%2C%E2%80%9D%20Gyniek%20said.%20%E2%80%9CWe%20jumped%20onto%20the%20floor%20and%20pulled%20a%20futon%20over%20us.%20We%20were%20very%20scared%2C%20laying%20there%20not%20knowing%20if%20the%20house%20was%20going%20to%20cave%20in%20and%20kill%20us.%E2%80%9D%20Left%20with%20no%20home%2C%20Gyniek%20and%20her%20daughter%20have%20been%20forced%20to%20stay%20at%20a%20multitude%20of%20places%20%26%238212%3B%20two%20hotels%2C%20a%20shelter%20and%20two%20friends%E2%80%99%20houses.%20The%20situation%20has%20gotten%20so%20bad%20that%20she%20had%20to%20send%20her%20daughter%20to%20live%20with%20her%20sister%20in%20Illinois.

%28credit%3A%20Salvation%20Army%29%3Cbr%20%2F%3ESince%20the%20tornado%2C%20the%20Salvation%20Army%20has%20provided%20help%20to%20find%20housing%20and%20help%20with%20rent%20and%20damage%20deposits.%20They%26%238217%3Bve%20given%20assistance%20for%20car%20repairs.%20All%20of%20her%20car%E2%80%99s%20windows%20were%20blown%20out%2C%20the%20rearview%20mirrors%20tore%20off%20and%20a%20few%20other%20things%20were%20broken.%20They%20also%20gave%20her%20two%20bus%20cards%20to%20search%20for%20housing%20until%20her%20car%20is%20fixed%2C%20a%20%2425%20Target%20card%20and%20hygiene%20supplies.

%28credit%3A%20Salvation%20Army%29%3Cbr%20%2F%3EDennis%20and%20his%20wife%20Deborah%20lived%20in%20a%20rented%20home%20with%20their%20five%20kids.%20%26%238220%3BThe%20family%20was%20outside%20and%20came%20in%20after%20the%20wind%20started%20howling%2C%E2%80%9D%20Dennis%20said.%20%E2%80%9CAll%20we%20heard%20was%20%26%238216%3BBang%21%20bang%21%20bang%21%26%238217%3B%20and%20then%20the%20house%20started%20shaking.%20We%20all%20ran%20into%20the%20hallway%20and%20shut%20all%20the%20doors.%20We%20heard%20trees%20crashing%20onto%20our%20roof.%26%238221%3B%20Their%20car%20was%20totaled%2C%20their%20house%20was%20a%20loss%2C%20they%20lost%20everything.%20They%20stayed%20in%20several%20shelters%20for%20several%20weeks.%20Elim%20Transitional%20put%20them%20in%20three%20rooms%20at%20Extended%20Stay%20in%20Brooklyn%20Center.%20They%26%238217%3Bve%20been%20turned%20down%20at%20every%20apartment%20they%26%238217%3Bve%20tried%20to%20get%20into.%20The%20Salvation%20Army%20is%20providing%20food%20and%20clothing%20to%20the%20family%20and%2C%20once%20housing%20is%20found%2C%20will%20be%20helping%20with%20the%20damage%20deposit%20and%20the%20first%20month%E2%80%99s%20rent.

%28credit%3A%20Salvation%20Army%29%3Cbr%20%2F%3ESingle%20father%20Shawn%20Jackson%20lived%20with%20his%20two%2011-year-old%20daughters%20in%20a%20rented%20North%20Minneapolis%20home.%20They%20were%20barbecuing%20when%20it%20started%20raining%20hard.%20They%20ran%20for%20cover%20inside%20the%20home.%20%E2%80%9CIt%20happened%20so%20fast%2C%E2%80%9D%20Shawn%20said.%20%E2%80%9CWhen%20it%20was%20over%2C%20we%20came%20back%20outside%20and%20everything%20was%20destroyed%20%26%238212%3B%20glass%20everywhere%20and%20the%20roof%20caved%20in.%E2%80%9D%20They%20stayed%20with%20family%20for%20several%20weeks.%20Although%20Shawn%20and%20his%20daughters%20moved%20into%20a%20new%20apartment%20in%20June%2C%20they%20lost%20everything%20in%20the%20tornado.%20The%20Salvation%20Army%20assisted%20with%20the%20security%20deposit%20and%20first%20month%20of%20rent%20for%20his%20new%20place%2C%20and%20gave%20them%20hygiene%20products%2C%20food%20and%20clothing.%20%E2%80%9CThe%20Salvation%20Army%20has%20been%20tremendously%20awesome%2C%E2%80%9D%20Shawn%20said.%20%E2%80%9CWhen%20they%20gave%20me%20these%20things%20I%20started%20crying.%20They%E2%80%99ve%20been%20helping%20me%20the%20best%20they%20can.%E2%80%9D

%28credit%3A%20Salvation%20Army%29%3Cbr%20%2F%3ECecelia%20O%26%238217%3BNeal%20is%20a%20single%20mother%20who%20lived%20in%20a%20rented%20home%20with%20her%20daughter%20and%20grandson.%20She%20was%20running%20errands%20when%20the%20tornado%20hit.%20Her%20daughter%20called%20and%20said%20they%20were%20safe%2C%20but%20the%20house%20was%20destroyed.%20Though%20O%26%238217%3BNeal%20had%20renters%20insurance%2C%20she%20still%20needs%20to%20spend%20lots%20of%20money%20that%20they%20don%E2%80%99t%20yet%20have%20in%20order%20to%20get%20their%20lives%20back%20to%20normal.%20In%20a%20way%2C%20she%20felt%20that%20some%20service%20agencies%20were%20penalizing%20her%20for%20having%20her%20life%20together%20before%20the%20tornado.%20%E2%80%9CI%20wouldn%E2%80%99t%20have%20been%20asking%20them%20for%20help%20if%20I%20didn%E2%80%99t%20need%20it%2C%E2%80%9D%20she%20said.%20The%20Salvation%20Army%20referred%20her%20to%20Bridging%2C%20where%20she%20received%20a%20limited%20number%20of%20furniture%20items%2C%20and%20also%20assisted%20her%20with%20July%20rent.
