U.S. soldiers from the 1-64 Coy. operating out of Lindsey-Foward Operating Base, FOB, stand in formation during a brief ceremony in Kandahar province on Sept. 11, 2012. The ceremony is in remembrance of those who perished eleven years ago in the 9/11 attacks in the U.S. The Taliban has taunted the U.S. with the prospect of “utter defeat” in Afghanistan, marking the 11th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks that saw U.S. troops invade to bring down the militia’s repressive regime. The anniversary itself was muted in Afghanistan, where U.S. and NATO troops organized small ceremonies to commemorate the deaths of nearly 3,000 people in the worst terror strike on U.S. soil.
