Canada Beats US 1-0 To Reach Gold-Medal Game

Jamie Benn scored in the second period, Carey Price made 31 saves, and Canada beat the United States 1-0 Friday night in the semifinals of the Olympic men’s hockey tournament. Canada advanced to the gold-medal match Sunday against Sweden, which beat Finland 2-1 in the earlier semifinal at Bolshoy Ice Dome.

Granlund, Koivu Named To Finnish Olympic Team

As many as five Minnesota Wild players will play for their native countries in the Winter Olympics next month. Forwards Mikael Granlund and Mikko Koivu were named Tuesday to Finland’s roster. Koivu’s participation is in question because of a broken ankle he suffered Saturday and had surgery to fix Monday.

5 Gophers Make U.S. Olympic Women’s Hockey Team

Five members or former members of the University of Minnesota women’s hockey team will be heading to Sochi in Russia for the 2014 Winter Olympics. Among those who were named to the team was forward Amanda Kessel, who was named NCAA player of the year.

Curlers Rock Fargo For Shot At 2014 Olympic Games

The leader of the only U.S. team to win an Olympic curling medal has spent the last several days playing before a mostly empty arena in North Dakota. Pete Fenson doesn’t mind. He still remembers the parade in Bemidji, Minn., that had residents waving brooms and American flags in 2006.
