It’s that time of year again – the Minnesota Governor’s Fish Opener. The 2015 opener is being held in the Lake Vermillion area May 7 through 10. The fishing challenge begins at midnight on Saturday, May 9.
Now that the ice is out, a lot of people are getting ready to put their boats on lakes and rivers. But the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources says not so fast.
High water will have a big impact on boating plans this Fourth of July weekend. No wake zones remain in effect on several area lakes. The slow speed is making for a quiet holiday on Prior Lake where many boaters didn’t even bother to get out on the water.
Many anglers are getting a few final hours of fishing in before fish houses have to be off the ice. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources says houses located south of the State must be off the ice by midnight Monday.
