Dakotas-based Sanford Health is opening a second clinic in the Minnesota city of Alexandria. Sanford said services that will be offered at the new clinic will range from pediatric cardiology to podiatry.

Cops: Pot Growing Operation Busted In Alexandria

Police discovered an outdoor marijuana growing operation while serving a search warrant for an Alexandria man Friday, according to authorities. Alexandria Police, the Douglas County Sheriff’s office and agents from the West Central Minn. Narcotics Task Force were executing a search warrant Friday for 46-year-old Warren McArdell at 9290 State Hwy 114 SW in Alexandria. While searching for McArdell on the property, which is owned by 53-year-old William James Doraska, authorities discovered a marijuana growing operation.

Child Who Received Cord Blood Transplant Dies

The pediatric patient who received a cord blood transplant back in April in an attempt to cure HIV/AIDs has died, according to officials with the Amplatz Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis. Medical officials said the 12-year-old boy, who has not been named, was born with HIV and later contracted leukemia.

Alexandria, Minn. ranked by a travel website as one of the nation’s best small towns. Livability.com ranks Alexandria number seven on their “Top 10 Best Small Towns” list. The website calls Alexandria “one of the fastest growing micropolitan areas in the country,” with great natural beauty, a plethora of outdoor activity options and charming shops and structures.

Man Stabbed To Death In Alexandria

A 28-year-old man was stabbed to death outside of an apartment building in Alexandria Saturday afternoon, according to police. Alexandria Police Chief Richard Wyffels says at about 1:11 p.m., authorities responded to a report of a stabbing at 1705 East 6th Ave. Upon arrival, they found Phillip Alstadt of Alexandria dead.
