Suspect In Brutal Domestic Assault Cuts Own Throat In Front Of Police

Police officers subdued a 22-year-old man who began to cut his own throat after he was suspected of brutally assaulting his girlfriend Saturday. Fridley Police responded to reports of a domestic situation at 6373 Pierce St. NE, and encountered 22-year-old James Ahlers, who began to cut his throat before officers intervened.

Authorities: 16-Year-Old Accused Of Shooting Brother Turns Himself In

A 16-year-old boy who allegedly shot his older brother in Columbia Heights Monday afternoon has turned himself in. Police officers were dispatched at 3:33 p.m. to an apartment on the 1700 block of 37th Avenue Northeast after a woman called 911 and said her 19-year-old son was shot by his brother.

Lightning Strikes Woman, Home In Ham Lake

Lightning is responsible for injuring a woman and starting a house fire in two separate incidents Saturday afternoon in Ham Lake, according to the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities received reports of lightning striking a woman at 2:45 p.m. at Lions Park at 155th Avenue and Central Avenue.

Dozens gathered Saturday to remember our country’s fallen heroes this Memorial Day weekend. A ceremony was held at the Anoka County Veterans Memorial at Bunker Hills Park. Several veterans spoke to the crowd, while visitors placed flowers at the memorial site.

High Water Levels On Green Lake Threaten Isanti Co. Residents

Lake residents in parts of east central Minnesota are hoping for drier weather soon as high water remains a big problem for many near Green Lake in Isanti County. High water is typical of many lakes in Isanti, Chisago and Anoka Counties. Heavy spring rains and snowmelt have swollen lake levels, putting a pinch in the start of the boating season.

Man Pleads Guilty To Filming Boys Changing At Local YMCAs

A Coon Rapids, Minn. man pleaded guilty this week to stalking a minor with sexual or aggressive intent after he allegedly filmed boys changing clothes at the Andover YMCA, according to the Anoka County Attorney’s office. Robert Dennis Minor, 54, was also charged in March 2013 with four counts of possession of pornographic work involving minors and two counts of use of minors in a sexual performance.

Anoka PD Use Spinout To End Chase With Refrigeration Van Thief

Anoka Police used the PIT maneuver to end a high-speed chase involving a stolen refrigeration van Tuesday afternoon. Employees of Pierce Refrigeration in Anoka noticed one of their fleet vans, which was parked behind the business with keys inside, had been stolen at about 11:15 a.m., according to Anoka County dispatch.

Body Of Man Found In RV Compartment ID’d

Investigators have identified the body that was found in a compartment of a rented RV on Friday in Winona, Minn. as an Anoka man who’s been missing since last November. According to the Anoka County Sheriff’s office, 22-year-old Kevin Casserly was found by 10 friends who had rented an RV from a man in Anoka.

Republicans made their choice of who should take Michele Bachmann’s seat in Congress Saturday. Tom Emmer is a former state lawmaker who narrowly lost the governor’s race to Mark Dayton in 2010. He celebrated his party’s endorsement for Congress Saturday in Monticello, Minn. getting 76 percent of the vote.

State Patrol: 2 Dead In Crash On I-694, Baby Survives

Two people died Friday evening in Anoka County following a rear-end crash on east-bound Interstate-694, according to the Minnesota State Patrol The crash happened shortly after 8 p.m. near the intersection of Matterhorn Drive in Fridley. Authorities say a male driver was traveling over 100 miles per hour when he rear-ended a semi truck in the eastbound lanes.

Fired Gov’t Worker Charged With Accessing Info On 800 Day Care Providers

A human services worker, fired for identity theft, has been charged with burglary and theft after returning to her former workplace, stealing office equipment and accessing the private information of almost 800 daycare providers, according to the Anoka County Attorney’s office. On the evening of July 9, 2013, 53-year-old Jan Michelle Gray gained access to the fourth floor of the Anoka County Human Services Building in Blaine by telling a custodian that she forgot her badge, according to a criminal complaint.

Metro Transit Provides Free New Year’s Eve Rides For 3rd Year

Metro Transit and Miller Lite will provide free bus and light rail rides on New Year’s Eve for the third year in a row. From 6 p.m. till the last scheduled trip, residents will be treated to complimentary rides on all Metro Transit buses and light rail, METRO Blue and Red lines, Plymouth Metrolink, Anoka County and Minnesota Valley Transit Authority buses. Metro Transit officials say they have provided more than one million rides through the Miller Free Rides Program on New Year’s Eve, and for the last 16 years on St. Patrick’s Day.

Minn. Man Accused Of Killing 2 Faces New Charge

A man accused of killing two young women is now facing a sexual assault charge in Anoka County. Alberto Palmer had been charged with premeditated first-degree murder in the death of 18-year-old Brittany Clardy. Her body was found Feb. 19 in a car at an impound lot.

Man Who Hit Bicyclist, Left Scene Gets Year In Workhouse

A 33-year-old Coon Rapids man got a stayed sentence of 15 months in prison Friday for colliding with a 9-year-old bicyclist in June and leaving the boy seriously injured and failing to help at the scene, Anoka County officials say.

Family, Friends Search For Man Last Seen In Anoka

An Anoka family is searching for a missing father of two. Kevin Casserly, 22, was last seen near the North Star station in Anoka on Nov. 12. Casserly has not contacted his family or shown up to work at Lakeland Tool. Kevin’s sister, Alex Casserly, says her brother’s disappearance has been very difficult to explain to his children. “[His kids] wanted to have a traditional Thanksgiving meal, and for them it was hard to understand why their dad wasn’t there,” Casserly said.

Anoka Co. Armed Robbery Spree Ends With Bite From K-9 Cop

Three suspects are in police custody, and one is recovering from injuries sustained from a K-9 officer, after a robbery spree in Anoka County Thursday night. According to Blaine Police, officers from multiple law enforcement agencies responded to three separate reports of armed robberies in the area between 11:00 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. The first report was on the 1000 block of County Road 10 in Spring Lake Park, the second was near Able Street Northeast and 87th Lane Northeast in Blaine and the third was on the 1100 block of 95th Avenue Northeast, also in Blaine. Descriptions from witnesses about the suspects, their vehicle and weapon (a shotgun or rifle) tied all three crimes together.

Fmr. Mpls. Cop Sentenced For Sending Nude Pictures To Girls

A former Minneapolis police officer was sentenced Friday for sending nude pictures to girls. Bradley Schnickel pleaded guilty in June to soliciting children to engage in sexual contact. On Friday, he was sentenced to a year in the Hennepin County workhouse in addition to no contact with children (unless approved).
