A child suffered broken bones Thursday after being hit by a slow-moving freight train while playing on the tracks, officials say.
A 16-year-old boy who allegedly shot his older brother in Columbia Heights Monday afternoon has turned himself in. Police officers were dispatched at 3:33 p.m. to an apartment on the 1700 block of 37th Avenue Northeast after a woman called 911 and said her 19-year-old son was shot by his brother.
Lightning is responsible for injuring a woman and starting a house fire in two separate incidents Saturday afternoon in Ham Lake, according to the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities received reports of lightning striking a woman at 2:45 p.m. at Lions Park at 155th Avenue and Central Avenue.

Investigators have identified the body that was found in a compartment of a rented RV on Friday in Winona, Minn. as an Anoka man who’s been missing since last November. From 6 p.m. till the last scheduled trip, residents will be treated to complimentary rides on all Metro Transit buses and light rail, METRO Blue and Red lines, Plymouth Metrolink, Anoka County and Minnesota Valley Transit Authority buses.
