MNsure Making Big Enrollment Push Ahead Of Deadline

The new federal health care law says everyone must be signed up by midnight Monday, or face a penalty. In Minnesota, MNsure is moving quickly to enroll as many people as possible over the weekend. Already this week, MNsure ramped up recruiting at more than 1,000 signup events.

Oscar Nominee To Throw Out Twins 1st Pitch

The Minnesota Twins will have an Oscar-nominated actor toss out at the ceremonial first pitch at their 2014 home opener. Barkhad Abdi will throw out the first pitch at the April 7 game against Oakland at Target Field. After the first pitch, Abdi will meet fans in the new Twins Digital Clubhouse in the U.S. Bank Homerun Porch.

Twins Announce Schedule For April 7 Home Opener

The Minnesota Twins open the 2014 regular season next week in Chicago, but the team announced Monday its plans for the April 7 home opener against the Oakland Athletics. First pitch, weather permitting, is scheduled for 3:10 p.m. at Target Field. Events will start bright and early with Breakfast on the Plaza from 6 to 9 a.m.

Minnesota Exchange Launches Push For Young Adults

Minnesota’s new health insurance exchange is making a final push to sign up so-called “young invincibles” by a March 31 deadline for open enrollment. Exchange chief Scott Leitz on Thursday announced a series of events for the coming week aimed at young adults ages 26 to 34.

Report: Actor Barkhad Abdi Is ‘Dead Broke’

It hasn’t been a great week for former Minneapolis cab driver turned movie star Barkhad Abdi. First he lost the Academy Award, and now a new report says Abdi is “dead broke.” According to the New Yorker, Abdi only made $65,000 from his role as the Somali pirate leader in “Captain Phillips.”

Barkhad Abdi Wins British Academy Award

Barkhad Abdi, the Somali immigrant who was a Twin Cities limo driver before playing a pirate in “Captain Phillips,” won an award at the British Academy Awards over the weekend. Abdi was named best supporting actor, edging Michael Fassbender in “12 Years a Slave” and Bradley Cooper in “American Hustle.”
