Black Bear Spotted Near Paul Bunyan, Babe Statues

Bemidji saw black and blue on Friday morning, but the wild incident ended with a peaceful nap. Police were called to the Paul Bunyan Park near the area of 12th Street Northeast and Lake Blvd. at about 6 a.m. A number of people reported seeing a black bear in the area.

Black Bear Pops Up Again In South Metro

The black bear that’s been sighted numerous times in the southern Twin Cities metro area during the past week has popped up once again. According to Savage Police, the black bear was spotted at about 1 p.m. Thursday on the 14100 block of Vernon Avenue.

Bear Stops Traffic In Savage

A young bear disrupted traffic Friday morning in Savage before disappearing into the woods, according to police. Authorities first received reports of the bear at about 5 a.m. when it attempted to cross Highway 13 near McColl Drive. Traffic stopped in both directions to allow the bear to pass.

Minnesota To Hold Bear License Numbers Steady

Minnesota wildlife managers plan to hold the number of bear hunting licenses steady this year to help gradually increase the bear population. Minnesota’s bear population was estimated at 17,000 in 2008, but the DNR says trends suggest the population is down to between 10,000 and 15,000.
