A 36-year-old Grand Rapids woman was killed Monday morning in an ATV accident in Beltrami County. According to the Beltrami County Sheriff’s office, the accident occurred just before 10 a.m. on the Scenic Highway Northeast (Co Rd 39) just north of Birchmont Beach Road Northeast in Moose Lake Township, which is 22 miles east of Bemidji. A witness saw the victim, who has not yet been identified, pinned under an ATV after the accident.
Authorities say crews are battling at least two wild fires that started in northern Minnesota late Monday night. As of about 9 p.m. Monday, there were two grass fires about 1,200 acres in size that are burning on the Red Lake Reservation west of Highway 89 and north of Highway 1 in Beltrami County.
Beltrami authorities are advising no travel in the county on Saturday due to icy conditions.
