Authorities: Man Dies In Minnesota ATV Crash

Authorities say a 23-year-old man has died in an all-terrain vehicle accident in Sherburne County. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office said Sunday that Travis Mahaffey died in the crash early Saturday in Big Lake Township.

Big Lake Man Arrested For Malicious Punishment Of A Child

Authorities in Big Lake say a 25-year-old man was arrested last week for malicious punishment of a child under the age of four. Big Lake Police interviewed the suspect, identified as Akinmusayo Akinde, after authorities received a report of child maltreatment.

Police: Northstar Train Vandalized In Big Lake

Authorities north and west of the Twin Cities are looking for at least one suspect after a Metro Transit NorthStar train was vandalized on Monday. Big Lake Police said the incident happened at about 2 a.m. while the train was parked at its service facility in Big Lake near intersection of Highway 10 and County Road 43.

Man Arrested After 6-Hour Standoff In Big Lake

A six hour standoff with authorities ended Sunday with a 47-year-old Big Lake man being arrested, according to the Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities were called at about 7 a.m. to the 17400 block of 165th Street in Big Lake Township on a report of a dispute between neighbors.

Four-time champion Martin Buser is holding on to his lead in the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race. The Big Lake musher was the first to reach the checkpoint at Nikolai, clocking in at 1:09 a.m. Tuesday, followed more than four hours later by Nicolas Petit of Girdwood.

Big Lake Man Pleads Guilty In Child Porn Case

A 44-year-old Big Lake man accused of possessing large amounts of child pornography pleaded guilty in Sherburne County Court on Friday to felony charges. According to court documents, Peter Michael Guevara pleaded guilty to possessing pornographic work involving minors that was on devices in his home.

Police: Serial Fast-Food Armed Robbery Suspect Caught

Maple Grove Police have arrested a man suspected of a month-long armed-robbery spree that mostly targeted fast-food restaurants along the Interstate 94 corridor. According to authorities, Douglas Wayne Gravelle was taken into custody on Thursday. This arrest comes after a string of armed robberies which began in early September. Fast-food restaurants in Sauk Rapids, St. Cloud, Big Lake, Clearwater and Monticello were targeted. A Game Stop video game store in Monticello may also have been robbed by Gravelle earlier this month.

Dad, Son In Hospital After Crash With Alleged Drunk Robbery Suspect

A high-speed chase involving an armed robbery suspect and police resulted in a crash which seriously injured a father and his infant son in Monticello Monday night. Investigators believe the man who caused the crash had also been drinking.
