Brian Wilson defined the Beach Boys’ California sound, but it took a Minnesotan to bring his story to the silver screen. Bill Pohlad directed the new film “Love and Mercy,” which spans more than three decades of Wilson’s life, revealing the darker story that lies beneath the upbeat music.
Bill Pohlad, known for producing such powerful films as 12 Years a Slave, Tree of Life and Brokeback Mountain, will have a director credit on a film slated to cap off this year’s Minneapolis St. Paul International Film Festival.
Bill Pohlad said he had been working on a film called “Tree of Life” with Brad Pitt, when he was asked if he’d be interested in working on a project on slavery.
