Buchholz Throws 3 Hitless Innings, Red Sox Beat Twins

Clay Buchholz pitched three hitless innings and struck out four as a Boston Red Sox split squad beat the Minnesota Twins 4-2 Saturday. Buchholz allowed just a walk in his first outing against big league hitters. He pitched a perfect inning against Northeastern earlier in the week.

Twins HR In 10th Doesn’t Hold, Boston Wins 2-1

The elation in the Minnesota dugout after Chris Parmelee broke a scoreless tie on a solo homer in the 10th inning didn’t last long. Seemingly on the verge of ending a four-game losing streak, the Twins instead lost their fifth in a row when Boston’s David Ortiz and Mike Napoli delivered back-to-back homers off Casey Fien and the Red Sox won it 2-1 Wednesday.

Boston’s Holt Scores Twice In 2-1 Win Over Twins

The Boston Red Sox are still looking for a position for Brock Holt. The versatile rookie has made the search difficult by playing well wherever the club has put him. Holt made his first professional start in center field and he appeared perfectly comfortable in his fifth position this season. He made a sensational diving catch to end the third inning and scored both Boston runs in the Red Sox’s 2-1 win over the Minnesota Twins 2-1 on Tuesday night.

Rubby De La Rosa matched his first career Fenway Park start with another seven impressive innings and A.J. Pierzynski had a sacrifice fly, lifting the Boston Red Sox to a 1-0 win over the Minnesota Twins Monday night. Mike Napoli helped cut down a runner trying to score with a heads up play in a Red Sox victory that came after a pair of one-run losses. Boston is 9-15 in one-run games.

Josh Willingham finally hit his first home run of the spring in Minnesota’s exhibition finale, and the Twins beat the Boston Red Sox 7-4 on Saturday. The game was called because of rain with two outs in the top of the ninth inning. Mike Napoli went 2 for 2 with a home run and three RBIs for the Red Sox. Jake Peavy, making his third Grapefruit League start, gave up one run and three hits in five innings. He walked one and struck out three.

Parmelee’s 3-Run HR Sends Twins Past Red Sox 6-2

Chris Parmelee’s three-run homer off left-handed reliever Jose Mijares broke open a close game in the sixth inning on Saturday, and the Minnesota Twins went on to beat the Boston Red Sox 6-2. Parmelee hit just .172 against lefties last year. He opened the season as the Twins’ everyday right fielder but gradually lost playing time until being sent back to Triple-A at the All-Star break. The former first-round draft pick is out of minor league options.
