Man Who Had Rooftop Standoff With Police Faces Several Charges

An Anoka man who climbed atop a north Minneapolis home after fleeing law enforcement was charged Friday with multiple crimes. The Hennepin County Attorney’s office says Richard Dean Podvin, 37, is charged with two counts of fifth-degree drug possession, one count of first-degree burglary, one count of a prohibited person in possession of a gun and one count of fleeing police in a motor vehicle.

Three Mankato residents are in custody in connection to a burglary that police first got wind of due to a 911 pocket dial. The Blue County Sheriff’s office says a 911 dispatcher received a call from a cell phone at about 3:45 a.m. Thursday.

Maple Grove police are urging residents who live near Eagle Lake to keep an eye out after three burglaries were reported in the past month. Strangely enough, it all started with electronics stolen from homes and businesses in Grand Forks and Twin Cities suburbs. A 30-year-old man will spend nearly five years in jail in a burglary spree that resulted in three dogs being killed in May 2013 in Northfield.
