Bigger Call Center Staff Makes Back-To-School Easier In Mpls.

Last year, the district’s call center experienced problems with long wait times and some parents’ questions left unanswered. This year, the number of call center staffers doubled from an average of eight to 16. Some also speak different languages to help address issues.

Impaired Driver Hits City Bus, Which Hits School In DT St. Paul

A Metro Transit bus was struck by a car Saturday morning in downtown St. Paul, causing the bus to hit a school building. Metro Transit officials say the accident happened at about 7 a.m. at the corner of West 7th and Robert streets.

A 48-year-old Forest Lake hockey director has been arrested and charged after he allegedly stole a shuttle bus belonging to a bar and drove away with it while intoxicated, according to St. Paul police.

Mpls. Teen Pleads Guilty To Fatally Shooting Man Protecting Son

A Minneapolis teen pleaded guilty to second-degree murder Monday in a case involving the shooting death of man who was defending his son. According to the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office, 17-year-old Joshua Ford is accused of fatally shooting 38-year-old Andrew Billingsley Jr. on July 24 in north Minneapolis.

Metro Transit Provides Free New Year’s Eve Rides For 3rd Year

Metro Transit and Miller Lite will provide free bus and light rail rides on New Year’s Eve for the third year in a row. From 6 p.m. till the last scheduled trip, residents will be treated to complimentary rides on all Metro Transit buses and light rail, METRO Blue and Red lines, Plymouth Metrolink, Anoka County and Minnesota Valley Transit Authority buses. Metro Transit officials say they have provided more than one million rides through the Miller Free Rides Program on New Year’s Eve, and for the last 16 years on St. Patrick’s Day.

A local pastor who worked as a bus driver said he was fired because he prayed with students on his bus. George Nathaniel III said children aboard his bus had a choice to engage in prayer or not. However, after a warning from the company that hired him, he was terminated last week.

Adrieanne Simmons, a St. Paul woman who said she was repeatedly punched in the head by a bus driver, wants to know why he’s back on the job. Her bus driver was charged with misdemeanor assault, disorderly conduct and criminal damage to property in the October incident, but he’s back behind the wheel.

100 Bus Drivers Short Just Days Away From Start Of School

With the start of school just days away, almost every school district in the Twin Cities is facing a school bus driver shortage. First Student, which runs 20 percent of all school buses in the state, said it needs 100 drivers as soon as possible. But before parents panic, First Student said do not worry. The company said children will get to school on time and buses won’t be overcrowded.

Cops Investigating Sherburne County School Bus Crash

Authorities are investigating after a car struck a school bus carrying 30 students Thursday afternoon in Sherburne County. Sherburne County Sheriff Joel Brott said three people are injured after a school bus, which had stopped, was struck from behind by another vehicle about 2:30 p.m. Thursday on County Road 5 in Big Lake Township.
