Kenny Perry’s timing was perfect. Perry eagled the last hole after waiting out a thunderstorm to take a one-shot lead Saturday after the second round of the Champions Tour’s 3M Championship.

Tom Pernice Jr. birdied the final two holes Sunday for a one-stroke victory over Jeff Sluman and Corey Pavin in the 3M Championship. Pernice finished with a 4-under 68 and had a 17-under 199 total at the TPC Twin Cities for his second career Champions Tour victory. He also has two PGA Tour victories. Sluman closed with a 62, and Pavin had a 66.
Tom Pernice Jr. moved into position Saturday for his second Champions Tour title, shooting a 7-under 65 to take a two-stroke lead over Tom Kite in the 3M Championship. Pernice had a 13-under 131 total at TPC Twin Cities after opening with a 66. The two-time PGA Tour winner had four straight birdies on the front nine, and added two more on Nos. 10 and 12. After making a 40-foot bogey putt on the 14th hole, he birdied Nos. 15 and 18. The 53-year-old Pernice, playing in the tournament for the first time, on the 2009 SAS Championship for his lone senior title.
The 3M Championship is not just about the men this year. Three of the top women’s golfers in history are scheduled to play in an event that’s part of the Champions Tour top at the TPC Twins Cities July 29-Aug. 4.
Jay Haas birdied the final hole Sunday to win the 3M Championship by one shot over Tom Lehman, Kenny Perry and Peter Senior.
