A couple escaped from a house fire in in Carver County Wednesday morning, but their two pets were killed in the blaze. Firefighters were called to 4000 Leslee Curve near Chanhassen just before 5 a.m. Crews were able to extinguish the flames, but not before the home was completely gutted.
The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum in Chanhassen has grown by 78 acres. The University of Minnesota bought the Lake Tamarack property in Carver County to restore and protect the watershed. It contains native forest, wetlands, tillable land and 1,300 feet of shoreline.
The State Patrol said one of its troopers suffered non-life-threatening injures Friday morning after being involved in a three-car crash on Highway 212 west of the Twin Cities. The patrol said Lacey Raser, 17, was driving a 2000 Dodge Dakota when the teenager hit 46-year-old State Trooper John Thompson, of Golden Valley. Donald Kahaian, 44, wasn’t injured as his Ford Fusion was also involved.
A 37-year-old Eden Prairie woman is in Carver County jail pending charges of felony promotion of prostitution after officers raided a Chanhassen massage parlor last Wednesday. According to Carver County Sheriff Jim Olson, deputies served a search warrant at a message business on the 7900 block of Stone Creek Drive in Chanhassen on the afternoon of Oct. 29. Deputies had originally targeted to the business after allegations that employees were offering sexual services for a “$40-$50 tip.”

Officials with the Chanhassen Dinner Theatre announced Thursday that local music star Tim Mahoney will be hosting a concert there on Saturday, Oct. 19. The concert is set for 8 p.m. on the Fireside Stage at the Chanhassen Dinner Theatre.
Prince put on a quite a show at his Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen on Saturday night, to hear the reviews from fans outside afterward. The concertgoers said that Prince took to the stage for about two hours and played songs that weren’t necessarily limited to greatest hits.
On Monday, Governor Mark Dayton signed an emergency bill into law, sending disaster aid to Minnesota counties hit hard by a week of severe summer storms in June. Eighteen Minnesota counties – including the largest, Hennepin County – were hit by high winds, torrential rains and widespread flooding during the five days of storms. Damage was heavy in the southeastern part of the state, where lawmakers – including Republican Rep. Greg Davids of Preston – thanked Minnesotans for their help.

A Twin Cities suburb has bragging rights Monday after being named one of the top cities to live in America. Chanhassen was ranked 4th by Money Magazine for cities with a population under 50,000. The city has been in the top 10 before, and ranked as high as number two a few years ago.
Three Twin Cities suburbs were named among the best places to live in America, according to Money Magazine, and Chanhassen was near the head of the pack for the entire country.
There weren’t any tornadoes but severe thunderstorms packed a punch across the metro Tuesday night, toppling trees and knocking out power to more than 40,000 people around the metro.
